We can't say enough about the tremendous change Rhett has made in our herd in such a short time. His kids are consistently longer, taller, have greater angulation, dairy character, and improved general appearance. His daughters have been phenominal milkers, having smooth fores and high, well-rounded rear attachments. All Rhett's daughters in our herd have gained their stars on one-day tests with the exception of Sunrise, who only missed her star by one tenth of a point. His offspring have done extremely well in the show ring as well. Two of his daughters in our herd, Apache & Dixie Belle, have already finished their championships in the small number of shows we are able to attend each year. All of his milking daughters in our herd have at least one leg toward their championships, including Best in Show wins. A promising Rhett son, CH Sutton's AR Sabre, had attained Best Buck in Show over 80+ bucks at Rutfest for the Autry/Peacock family.

Rhett had the sweetest disposition of any buck we have ever owned, yet being a real character! He loved people and he loved attention. Rhett was tall, upstanding (50 Stature), and long. He had open ribbing, a flat level rump, excellent topline, and a beautiful head and neck that he is passing on to his offspring. We especially like the sharp withers, smooth shoulder assemblies, toplines, and length we are seeing in his offspring. So far, we have seen improvement in udders, particularly in smoothness of fore udder. We realize that we had something very special in this buck and we are very appreciative to Patti Dean and her staff at Willow Run for allowing us to have this buck for our breeding program.

Rhett has been used extensively throughout our herd and we used him heavily again in 2007. Unfortunately, we lost Rhett due to stones in August, however his influence will be felt and remain strong in our herd for many years to come.  He is also being used in several top herds through the use of AI.

Golden Oats, "Oatey" as he is known in the barn, is the son of the 2006 Reserve National Champion, Honey Oats. Oatey is upstanding, long, level, and has a wide, level rump. We think he will work extremely well on our does and we used him on CH Rebel in 2007 and will repeat that breeding in 2008. Thanks to Lloyd & Nora Allen for sending us this fine, young buck.

The story of how we came to own Oatey.

Maxine and Amy traveled to Indianapolis to watch the Alpine Show and shop for a buck.  We arrived the day before the show and walked through the barns, looking at all the beautiful does from all over the country.  We stopped by Lloyd & Nora Allen's pens and a beautiful, chamoisee doe caught our eye--it was Honey Oats.  We continued our search but nothing impressed us quite the way Honey did.  To our amazement, no one had put a deposit on a buck kid for the next spring, so we promptly wrote a check to reserve Honey's first buck.  Mr. Allen joked that she probably wouldn't cooperate. but I assured him that she would have a buck for us and a doe for him.  As we turned to leave I asked, "You're not going to go up on the price when she's the National Champion, are you?"   Mr. Allen replied, "Of course not!"  And then, "Do you really think she's that good?"  Our reply was, "She's really that good!"  The rest is history.  Honey Oats went on to be Reserve National Champion the next day and in the spring, she presented him with a doe and a buck for us, *B Alpine-Valleys Golden Oats.

Thanks to Leslie Sidwell of Iron Rod Alpines, we were able to get this Rhett son out of Shemise, one of the best does on her farm. Stetson looks incredibly similiar to his sire at the same age and when ADGA Planned Pedigrees are run using Stetson, the results are almost identical to those using Rhett. Hopefully, Stetson is the buck who will carry on the Rhett line in our herd for many years to come.

We absolutely love The Bold Tartan line and think he may be the best kept secret in the Alpine world! We plan to use Advance on our Rhett daughters and to intensify The Bold Tartan influence in our herd. Vance is really getting tall and long and should be a BIG boy. We used Vance on most of our 2007 purebred kids and a special mating to GCH Apache and in 2008 he will be used on almost all of our purebred does. Thanks, Leslie for making this fine buck available to us.

We leased Lawman this fall and will be using him on the majority of our 2008 kids.  Lawman is exceptionally correct overall but especially in feet and legs.  His front legs are arrow straight with absolutely no turn-out.  Toes are tight and he is showing substantial bone.  We especially like his depth of body that is carried all the way back into his flank.  We anxiously await the arrival of his 2009 kids.  They should be something special!  Thanks to Angie Peevy for allowing us to use this fine buck.

Chico is wide through the chest and deep-bodied. He is uphill and long with a rump that is level from thurl to thurl with good length. We love the color he passes on to his offspring. Chico also carries Rhett's gentle personality. We used Chico to intensify the Stardust line in our herd and are keeping several of his doe kids. He was bred to Fritzi and Finale before going to the herd of Michael & Stacy Atkinson in South Carolina.

Magnum is a very correct buck with a beautiful head and neck that flows into a strong and level back and rump. His daughters have mammaries with large areas of attachment and high well-rounded escutcheons. He was bred to several does this fall and we are keeping his son, Titan, to use in the herd.

Maverick is a Cherry Glen buck with an impressive pedigree! We especially like his correct front end and tight toes. His dam, SGCH Monika, is one of our all-time favorite Cherry Glen doe and having SGCH Gesture (2006 National Champion w/Best Udder) in his immediate pedigree is definately a big plus! Thanks to Diane and Wayne for making this buck available to us.

This home-bred buck has the highest percentage of inbreeding on SGCH Tamara of any buck we've raised. Since Tamara is now retired, we decided we needed to keep Titan to use in our herd. We love his long bone pattern with tremendous substance of bone, strong pasterns, angulation, and width between the hocks. He has the levelness and width of rump that we so admire in Tamara. He will be used in our herd much more in the future.
